Hannah Small, who led the organising of the party, and Mr.Chetty
Last week Thursday our 7C class threw a surprise birthday party for their unsuspecting teacher, Mr. Chetty.
This exciting venture was guided by one of Mr. Chetty’s students, Hannah Small, who organised and planned the party with a little bit of help from Mr. Engel and staff, but most importantly a lot of help from all her peers.
Everyone gathered together and did their part. While the cat was away the mice were abuzz with putting up the decorations, blowing up the balloons, setting up and handing out the treats, and very importantly being on the lookout to make sure he didn’t end up ruining his own surprise.

Surprise!!
As break ended and Mr. Chetty was on his way back to class, everyone gathered together at the door, energy on high, hands full of confetti and balloons ready to fly. Waiting in anticipation, one hushing the other, everyone panicking about the last minute decision of what to shout or whether they should just start singing. Eventually a decision was made.
Standing at the door everyone hushes; hoping someone else doesn’t walk in. Hannah is standing in the front row holding a cupcake with a lit candle in the middle. As the door opens, Mr. Chetty walks in, and everyone yells, “Surprise!”, balloons fly and confetti gets thrown into the air landing everywhere, including on the cupcake itself!
Mr. Chetty, who was lost for words, thanked all his students for their kindness and for all the thought and effort they had put into making this day so special.
The party had started and treats were being handed out and eaten with great excitement. Photos were being taken and of course, laughter and silliness ensued. Mr. Engel who was walking by, stopped in to see the results of this surprise party the kids were so excited to plan and to wish Mr. Chetty a happy birthday. Mr. Chetty’s class even gave him a birthday gift, one of the gifts being a jar of “chill pills” (aka more treats!).

The Birthday Cupcake
It’s safe to say the best part of throwing a party is getting a period off to eat cake and have some fun. But it wasn’t too long before they had to settle down again and get back to work. Lucky for them a birthday fairy had come to drop off some extra treats as an extra surprise for everyone.
This definitely was a class effort! Well done 7C for pulling off this wonderful surprise!
